Adopting 'reading for pleasure' as the core philosophy of our school library is strongly supported by research. Major studies, including a significant UK-based report, confirm that children who read for enjoyment tend to perform better academically across all subjects, not just in literacy. Beyond grades, this approach nurtures empathy, reduces stress, and builds lifelong positive reading habits. By prioritising engaging collections, student choice, and a welcoming atmosphere over purely curriculum-driven support, the library becomes a vital space for students’ holistic growth. This evidence-backed philosophy makes the library essential to student well-being and intellectual development.

Our Libraries

Our college offers three dedicated reading spaces, each tailored to different age groups and needs.

The Nest Library is a warm, inviting space stocked with age-appropriate books and designed to provide a calm environment. Nest pupils visit weekly to explore the joy of reading, share interests, select books to take home, and discuss ideas with their parents.
In Junior School, our Accelerated Reading Room provides levelled books to help pupils develop literacy skills at their own pace. Junior students also visit the Main Library weekly to explore a wide range of topics—from comics and history to space and sports. This student-centred approach makes reading a genuinely personal and enjoyable journey.
The Main Library serves as a central hub for Senior School pupils, offering space for quiet study, research, and social connection—a welcoming place to collaborate and share experiences.

In 2025, we enhanced our library with a public library-standard management system and self-service lending machines. As the first WCEC school in China to pilot RFID technology, we have made borrowing and returning books much more accessible and efficient. The new system is interactive and user-friendly—even Year 3 pupils can now navigate it with ease, confidently handling checkouts and returns like professional librarians.

We provide a rich, diverse collection of approximately 20,000 titles to support learning for pupils, staff, and families. These include:

Our Events

We actively foster a love of reading through a wide range of book-related events, both in and beyond the classroom, ensuring that reading is valued not only as a learning tool but also as a source of enjoyment and enrichment.

Each year, we invite award-winning authors from the UK, USA, Australia, or New Zealand for a full-day visit.

Students have the unique opportunity to meet the author, ask questions about their work and inspiration, and receive professional feedback on their own writing.
