Why Choose the A-Level Program?
The A-Level qualification is globally recognised as the gold standard for pre-university education, offering students aged 16+ a rigorous and specialised academic pathway. At Wellington College Tianjin, our A-Level program allows students to delve deeply into their chosen subjects, fostering intellectual curiosity and mastery in their fields of interest.
Unlike broader curricula, the A-Level program encourages focused, in-depth study—mirroring university-level learning. Worldwide, higher education institutions typically require students to specialise in one or two disciplines. By adopting this approach early, our students develop critical research skills, a passion for knowledge, and the academic resilience needed to excel in top universities.
Ultimately, admission to the world's leading universities hinges on A-Level results, making this program an exceptional foundation for future success.
2025-26 Academic Year Senior School Program Overview
Pre-A-Level Program – Year 11
Designed to ensure a smooth transition into A-Level studies, this program strengthens students' English proficiency, core knowledge, and study skills through intensive summer training.
Curriculum Structure:
· 6 compulsory subjects: Mathematics, English Language, Chinese, ICT, Oracy & Study Skills and Core Physical Education
· 4 elective subjects: Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Economics, Design & Art, etc.
This balanced approach equips students with the terminology, practical skills, and academic foundation required for the A-Level curriculum.
A-Level Program – Years 12 & 13
The A-Level program is an excellent university preparatory course due to its challenging content and rigorous assessment system. With no compulsory subjects, students can choose three subjects based on their academic interests, allowing them to focus more deeply on their chosen fields over the two years from ages 16 to 18.
Because the A-Level curriculum delves much deeper than broader curricula, students ultimately become specialists in their chosen subjects. Additionally, the school offers supplementary programs such as:
· Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)
· After-school academic support sessions
· Gifted and Talented Accelerated Program
· Self-study Q&A sessions
· Progress tracking and personalised feedback
· Comprehensive university counselling
These form a comprehensive and systematic curriculum framework.
