15th Anniversary Series|October Arts Week Highlight

2026-10-30

图片

In 2026, Wellington College Education (China) – Tianjin celebrates its 15th anniversary. Fifteen years of growing together; pupils growing up, families growing alongside us, and a whole school community creating a story together. Throughout the year, our anniversary celebrations bring people together through art, music, personal stories and community action — an opportunity to treasure the memories we have made and look forward to what comes next.

October Arts Week |

A creative tribute to fifteen years

Our recent Arts Week was a celebration of pupil creativity. Through painting, collage and music, pupils explored their connections with the school, with one another and with the natural world — creating a very special gift for Wellington’s 15th anniversary.

Art with heart,

creativity in harmony with nature

Year 9 Art pupils worked together to create a portrait of Eric Liddell, celebrating the Eric Liddell Organisation, which is dedicated to finding loving homes for homeless pets. Through this collaborative artwork, pupils expressed compassion and kindness, and paid tribute to the school’s fifteen years of helping vulnerable animals find a second chance.

Inspired by environmental artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser, Year 7 and Year 8 pupils created a large collaborative artwork, Wellington in Harmony with Nature. Using recycled materials and exploring new techniques, they brought their ideas to life in a colourful celebration of the environment. The work reflects the pupils’ belief in living in harmony with nature, as well as their pride in and affection for the Wellington community.

Songs that have grown up with us

At the Black Box, the Music Department’s workshop, From Then to Now: Hits That Raised Us (2011–2026), brought fifteen years of memories to life.

The event opened with a performance of this year’s Arts Week theme song, You Raise Me Up, by our pupils and jazz and rock band Bridge. It was a heartfelt thank-you to everyone in the Wellington community who has supported us along the way. Bridge then performed a selection of much-loved hits from the past fifteen years. From upbeat anthems to reflective ballads, the songs sparked a wave of nostalgia around the room.

After the performances, pupils put their musical knowledge and listening skills to the test in a lively quiz. They listened, explored and shared ideas, discovering more about the music they enjoy. Music is more than a performance on stage: it is part of the shared story of our pupils, families and staff.

Arts Week may be over, but its creativity and inspiration remain throughout the school. At Wellington, the arts give pupils a way to express themselves and are an important part of a holistic education — helping them to collaborate, empathise and discover what they love.

This month’s story: Rooted in Warmth, Growing Towards the Light — My Fifteen Years with Wellington

More than twenty years ago, the Xibeijiao neighbourhood where I grew up was earmarked for redevelopment. It was the home of generations of my family and held some of my happiest childhood memories. When it was time to say goodbye, I felt a deep sense of loss and quietly hoped that one day I might return.

By a fortunate turn of events, Wellington College was built on this very land. As a nursing professional, I kept an eye on the school’s vacancies, hoping that my experience might bring me back to the place where I had grown up. In the school’s second year, I was delighted to be appointed as its school nurse. After all those years, I had returned to my childhood home — a remarkable connection.

Time has flown, and Wellington is now celebrating its 15th anniversary. Over the past fifteen years, I have grown alongside the school, and my role has developed from a one-person post into a whole team. I am grateful to this warm and welcoming community for giving me the opportunity to grow, the confidence to move forward, and the support and encouragement to keep learning and improving.

Fifteen years together — and still moving forward. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been born in this place and to have found my way back to it. To the school I love: may your story continue to flourish. With hope in our hearts, let us look forward to the next fifteen years together.
