At Wellington College Education (China) -Tianjin, academic competitions are more than contests: they are transformative experiences that challenge pupils to think critically, collaborate creatively and extend the boundaries of their potential. During the 2025-2026 academic year, 151 Senior School pupils across all year groups participated in 60 academic competitions spanning a wide range of subject areas.

Together, these achievements reflect not only the breadth of opportunity available to our pupils, but also the ambition, resilience and intellectual curiosity that define academic life at Wellington College International Tianjin.
For our pupils, these competitions are powerful growth opportunities. They translate classroom knowledge into real-world applications, build confidence, and cultivate a mindset of curiosity and perseverance. Whether competing individually or as part of a team, each participant has embarked on a journey of self-discovery and skill mastery that will benefit them far beyond their school years.
Subject Area Highlights: Shining Across the Disciplines
1
Mathematics & Science:
Our pupils demonstrated strong problem-solving skills and scientific acumen on respected international stages. In mathematics, they achieved success in challenging contests including the UKMT Senior Mathematical Challenge (SMC) and the American Mathematics Competitions (AMC 10 & 12).

In science, pupils excelled in the British Biology Olympiad (BBO) and the Physics Bowl, including one Global Top Score winner.

2
Computer Science:
Innovation and technical skills were at the forefront. In the British Computing Challenge (BCC), pupils received 5 Distinction Awards and 2 Perfect Scores, demonstrating strong computational thinking and programming ability. They then applied these skills in practical contexts such as VEX Robotics competitions, where they designed, built, and programmed robots to solve complex engineering challenges.

3
English, Humanities and Economics:
Pupils demonstrated critical thinking, eloquence and global awareness through the World Scholar’s Cup (WSC), where teams collaborated across debate, writing and a rigorous multi-disciplinary quiz. Their achievements were outstanding: 5 trophies, 47 gold medals, and 18 silver medals, with all participating teams advancing to the global round.

4
Music & Art:
Creative expression flourished through national composition contests and visual arts exhibitions. Pupils received recognition for originality and technical skill, contributing to the school’s vibrant cultural life and demonstrating that academic excellence extends beyond examination subjects.

The Power of Teamwork: Achieving More Together
Beyond individual success, some of the year’s most significant accomplishments came through team-based competitions. In events such as the Team Maths Challenge in Shanghai, the Maths Tournament at Berkeley in Manchester, and the International Economics Olympiad Asia Round in Xiamen, pupils learned that collaboration multiplies achievement. They communicated ideas clearly, drew on one another’s strengths and supported each other under pressure, developing skills that will serve them well in future academic and professional settings.

Looking Ahead
The 2025-2026 academic year has been a resounding success in academic competitions. We celebrate every pupil who had the courage to participate, the determination to prepare and the spirit to compete. Their achievements have brought great pride to our school community.

In the coming year, we will build on this momentum by broadening participation, introducing new competition platforms and continuing to provide the guidance and resources pupils need to succeed. We look forward to another year of inspiring achievements, ambitious ideas and the continued development of well-rounded scholars and leaders.
