Countdown | Wellington College Tianjin Musical Production 2024

In March, Wellington College Tianjin will be presenting the all-time classic Broadway musical, Jekyll & Hyde, performed exclusively by Senior School pupils. Before this, we had successfully staged annual musical productions such as The Wizard of Oz, Grease, West Side Story and Les ‘Misérables.
The musical phenomenon brings to life the epic battle between good and evil on stage. Based on Robert Louis Stevenson's classic gothic horror story Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and featuring a thrilling score of pop rock hits by Frank Wildhorn, who has been nominated for multiple Grammys and Tonys, and Leslie Bricusse, who has won double Oscars and a Grammy, Jekyll & Hyde has captivated audiences worldwide. Several popular songs, including "This Is the Moment", "Take Me as I Am ", "Someone Like You", "Once Upon a Dream" and "In His Eyes" have gained widespread popularity.
Brief Synopsis
An evocative tale of two men: one a passionate and romantic doctor, the other a terrifying madman; and two women: one beautiful and trusting, the other beautiful but trusting only herself. Both women are in love with the same man and unaware of his dark secret. Dr Henry Jekyll, a devoted man of science, is determined to find a chemical breakthrough to solve some of mankind's most challenging medical dilemmas. When his proposals are rejected, he decides to become the subject of his own experimental treatments, inadvertently unleashing his inner demons and the man the world would come to know as Mr Edward Hyde.

Ms ShihShih Chen, the musical director and producer, Mrs Hannah Bond, the drama director, and Ms Emma Chen, the co-producer, have combined their expertise in drama and music to weave the production together. The pupils in the cast, orchestra, and crew have excelled themselves this year despite facing many obstacles and only having eight weeks to pull the production together. At present, we are undergoing intense rehearsals to present the best possible performance.
