University Success - Shaping Futures

10 Apr 2020
As the leaves return to the trees and children can again be seen playing outside after this difficult period, it gives us the greatest pleasure to update you on what is arguably the strongest set of UK university offers in the history of Wellington College Tianjin. At the time of writing, our magnificent Year 13 pupils are secure in the knowledge that they have offers from some of the most renowned institutions in Britain. Two offers from Imperial College London; four from University College London; three from Kings College London; three from the University of Manchester and two from the University of Edinburgh represent a cross-section of some of the most prestigious and selective universities in the world.   Of special note are the achievements of Kelvin and Woo who have accepted offers from Imperial College London to study Biological Sciences and Chemical Engineering respectively. Not only does this reflect the ever-growing strength and versatility of our Science department but highlights the quality of education available to the young people of Wellington College in Tianjin. Kelvin was successful in all five of his UCAS applications which also included Universities of Warwick, Liverpool and Sheffield. In addition to Woo’s Imperial College offer, he secured places at four other Russell Group universities (including UCL), as well as the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. As the world unites in its appreciation of doctors and nurses in the face of unprecedented challenges, it is particularly appropriate to celebrate Wellington College Tianjin’s first MedicMohammed has made it through an intense period of interviews and supplementary examinations to secure offers to study medicine at three universities in the UK. Our best wishes follow him as he embarks on this most demanding and altruistic of careers. The past two years has seen great progress in the teaching and mentorship of students of business and economics under the guidance of Mr Juma and Mr Djordjevic. Year 13 pupil Cindy is now holding offers to study Business at UCL, KCL, Warwick and Edinburgh. As the only US applicant this year, Cindy also has offers from state flagship University of Virginia and the University of Rochester and is waiting on several more decisions from the University of California among others. Other potential business undergraduates are looking forward to choosing offers from London and around the UK. The art, design and fashion provision at Wellington College Tianjin has built a considerable national reputation over the past 5 years with alumni currently enjoying success at all of the top 10 US and UK art and design schools. This year is no different with Sherry, Irene, Teresa, Henry and Bruno securing places at undergraduate and foundation level at UAL, Glasgow School of Art, University of Brighton, Bath Spa, Nottingham Trent, Newcastle, Kingston and Loughborough among many others. We are also pleased to hear from recent alumni Jason and Owen who have finished their foundation years at UAL and been accepted onto undergraduate courses in architecture (Jason, Central St Martins) and graphic design (Owen, London College of Communication). The breadth and quality of these offers is testament to the hard work and perseverance of all pupils, parents, teachers and university counsellors here at Wellington. While many schools claim to offer a bespoke provision for university applications, we are proud that every Year 13 pupil has benefitted from support which has not simply focused on the university ranking tables, but has been engaged on a personal level to find the ‘best fit’ university as cherished, individual members of our community. We look forward with confidence to update you as further offers come in from the USA, Canada and Korea.   Click  and read previous post
