05 Feb 2026

On Saturday, 31 January, the first “Education Partners” Parent-School Workshop at Wellington College Education (China) - Tianjin concluded in a warm and inspiring atmosphere. The event adopted a blended format, combining on-campus interactive sessions with live streaming. This allowed in-person exchanges and real-time virtual engagement to run in parallel, attracting a wide range of education experts, media representatives, and parents from both within and beyond the school community. The live stream reached over 10,000 views, a testament to the strong connection between families, schools, and the broader community – transcending the boundaries of time and space.

“Every child is a star,” Dr Yang said. “Theyhave both the right and the ability to shine in their own unique way. Our role is to help them find their place, so that they can truly sparkle.” Speaking about the qualities needed for future talent, she highlighted the importance of technical skills, foresight, empathy, sensitivity, and intuition. She also reminded parents that 70% of a child’s growth takes place beyond the classroom, and that a love for life and balance are essential for sustaining vitality.

Dr Yang described Wellington as a “warm and nurturing community of growth”, where safety, love, and trust form the core bonds between families and the school.

Breakout Sessions: In-Depth

Exploration of Four Core Topics

图片

“Parent as Coach: Building Emotional Resilience for the Journey to Higher Education”

“Children are not intentionally causing problems; they are undergoing a physiologically driven, unprecedented mind-body revolution. They need navigators, not judges.”

— Ms Stone Li, Whole School Senior Counsellor and Senior School SENCo

Ms Li emphasised that academic progression is as much a test of mental resilience as it is of academic achievement. She provided parents with practical strategies to help children maintain a positive mindset, develop inner stability and build confidence under pressure.

“Beyond University Admissions: Unlocking potential and building a tailored growth plan”

“The goal of progression is not simply to gain entry into a prestigious university, but to develop the confidence to reinvent oneself at any time in an unpredictable future.”

 Ms Ning Zhang, University Counsellor

Ms Zhang stressed that every child is unique. She encouraged parents to work with their children to tailor growth pathways based on their interests, strengths and emerging trends, connecting them with resources to help them become future changemakers.

“The Power of Language: Connecting to the World and the Future through English”

“English is no longer simply a subject to be learned, but rather the tool and medium through which all other subjects are studied. It has become the fundamental means by which children think, inquire and express themselves.”

— Ms Jiao Jiao, ELA Teacher / SS ELA Coordinator

Ms Jiao guided parents and pupils to move beyond the “exam-focused” mindset for English learning, instead viewing language as a bridge for cross-cultural communication and intellectual growth. Through drama, debating and real-life learning scenarios, she demonstrated how pupils can become confident connectors.

“Education in the Age of AI: Nurturing Irreplaceable Human Capabilities”

“Grades are numbers; abilities are complex; the future has no standard answers. The ultimate mission of education is to nurture the irreplaceable qualities in every child.”

Ms Karen Shi, Deputy Head of Senior School / Director of International Curriculum Centre

Ms Shi explored the educational changes brought by artificial intelligence and shared real-life campus examples of how Wellington fosters interdisciplinary skills, innovation and individuality in pupils.

At Wellington College Education (China) - Tianjin, we believe the best education happens when families and schools share a common vision and move forward in harmony. This first “Education Partners” Parent-School Workshop was not only an exchange of ideas and experiences, but also a new starting point for building a stronger educational community. In the future, we will continue to create platforms for dialogue and collaboration, walking side by side with every education partner to build a future full of possibilities for our children.
