Wellington College Tianjin Receives Top Award
On August 27th, 2021, the China International School Characteristics Ranking results for 2020 were released by KingLead. This is the fourth year that KingLead has conducted the annual ranking of International schools in China.
Mr Julian Jeffrey, Executive Master of Wellington College Tianjin, stated, “This is very welcome news as we begin our year-long 10th-anniversary celebrations here at Wellington College in Tianjin”.
This award adds to the College’s exceptional university offers received earlier this year from Oxford, Cambridge and the Ivy League.
The China International School Characteristics Ranking for 2020 was reviewed by professors from Harvard University, University of Cambridge, and the University of Oxford, as well as educational experts from KingLead. Kinglead rankings evaluate international schools through quantitative modelling, comprehensive weighted scores and field studies by an expert research team.
The China International School Characteristics Ranking 2020 consists of 10 rankings with different themes: scientific research, leadership, humanities, mathematics, American education, British education, Chinese culture, art, sports and languages. Each ranking concentrated on one theme, and the characteristics of schools are ranked respectively.
“We believe that in an international school, Chinese culture should be a broad concept which refers to many aspects such as Chinese traditional thought, literature, art and social systems. Compared to Western culture, it is a valuable spiritual treasure with Chinese national characteristics and historical inheritance. It is an important part of human civilization.” Ms Yang Zhou, the Head of Mandarin at Wellington College Tianjin, commented.
In discussing the Mandarin teaching and learning at Wellington College Tianjin, Ms Zhou said that, “For pupils with a Chinese cultural background, learning about Chinese culture helps them to have a better sense of belonging and identity so that they will find it easier to develop their confidence in such a multicultural environment. For pupils with backgrounds from other countries, the most immediate benefit of studying Chinese culture is that it allows them to have fewer communication barriers and difficulties in life, so that they can live thrive in Tianjin and in China. No matter what cultural background the pupils have, here at Wellington College Tianjin, we offer them a broader perspective, sharper vision, more effective communication, deeper thinking, more positive attitude, and more inclusive mindset. Based on these theories, our Mandarin curriculum and Chinese cultural activities, including the Chinese language and literature classes, and the various Chinese cultural extra-curricular activities, are all extremely important components of the curriculum of the school and its activities.”
