Thank you again to those parents who were able to attend the presentation in the College library yesterday by Mr Murray Lindo, Development Director of Wellington College (UK). It was a pleasure to welcome Mr Lindo to Tianjin, following his recent visits to our sister schools in Shanghai.
Mr Lindo’s presentation affirmed the great importance to the Wellington family of schools of our shared international links. These links are already strong and evident in many staff and pupil visits, exchanges, trips, and training events across the Wellington group. Mr Lindo also used the opportunity of his visit here to share with us Wellington’s plans to develop further the links between all our Wellington communities, and announced the launch of a new online platform for this purpose, ‘WeConnect’. The vision for this new platform can be compared to ‘Linked In’ a well-known platform for professional occupations, with which many of you will be familiar. By linking to ‘WeConnect’, our past and future Tianjin alumni, and their parents, will be able to connect both with each other and with Wellington alumni and their parents world-wide, for such purposes as the sharing of professional expertise; employment, training and internship opportunities; induction support for entering university; alumni and other special events; and much more. All Wellington families will in due course be able to use ‘WeConnect’ as an easy way of maintaining and developing their personal links and connectedness to the wider Wellington family, for as long as they might wish through the years ahead.
Yesterday, Mr Lindo advised us, Lotus, our Head of College, became the first student from an international Wellington school to join the ‘WeConnect’ community. The rest of our Year 13 will have a similar opportunity to link to this platform as they prepare for life beyond the College, and in the near future we will extend this invitation to all Tianjin alumni and their parents. Mr Lindo will keep us closely in touch with next stage developments.
