Dear Parents,

I hope you all enjoyed an excellent family holiday over the Chinese New Year.  Throughout the College pupils are straight back into the many purposeful activities of a busy term, including important mocks for Years 11, 12 and 13.  This term is a key period of public examination preparation for these year groups.

Next week we are raising awareness of the ways in which we should promote and educate mental health for all pupils, indeed for all our families.  This special edition of ‘The Week Ahead’ thus amplifies this theme, with columns suggesting practical approaches.  The UK, along with numbers of other countries, has only relatively recently started to recognise the extraordinary extent, cost and impact of mental health problems afflicting millions of sufferers across all social classes, ethnic groups and generations.  The causes and symptoms of these problems are manifold, and, as with physical health, it is wise to take a preventive approach to mental health from the earliest of ages - hence all the advice from my colleagues today, along with the messages we will be sharing in school next week, such as in Wellbeing lessons and assemblies.  The old saying ‘healthy body, healthy mind’ is equally true vice-versa.  This issue was also front page news in The Times (of London) this week, as was the call from members of the British royal family to raise awareness of the ways in which we can all do more to support initiatives and education in this area.  If you would like to know more about this, you can type ‘Heads Together’ as an internet search for more information, or do make contact with Mr Lewis on jonathan.lewis@wellingtoncollege.cn

Finally from me this week, please also see the notice cordially inviting parents and alumni to a coffee afternoon, next Tuesday in the Library, with the Development Director of Wellington College, Murray Lindo.  This meeting will be of special importance to any families who wish to maintain and develop their own personal links and connectedness to the wider Wellington family, not just through their years of College enrolment, but also through the years ahead after graduation.

With best wishes to all our Wellington families.

Michael Higgins,
Master

His role is particularly focused on bringing together Wellingtonians from across the family of schools to their mutual benefit in terms of university and career opportunities. Mr Lindo is visiting Tianjin this month with a view to strengthening the links with our pupils as they move on to the next stage of their e
