The Week Ahead 1 December 2016

Dear Parents,

We were very pleased to welcome many of you to our Nest meeting on Tuesday, and our monthly ‘Meet the Master and Senior Leaders’ meeting this afternoon, to share our updated development plans for the next two years. Language enrichment will continue to be a key focus, notwithstanding the external commendations we have already received for our language teaching, this year and previously. The continued provision of the highest standards of our UK curriculum, as led by our class and subject teachers, will also benefit from enhancement and reinforcement of our Mandarin language and cultural education.  Educational research shows that the learning of two (or more) languages results in faster progress, over time, in both. Next term we will present personally on the subject of language development and research to interested parents, and include input from visiting experts in this field.

There is a great deal going on in the School over the last two weeks of term, and as Mr Jeffrey writes in his column, the educational as well as community benefits of our performance events and opportunities for our young people are enormously important to their all-round personal development and growth.  The Senior Choir were in excellent form in the beautiful festive setting of the Grand Hyatt last night. Tonight the Junior Choir are singing at the Shangri-La and rehearsals suggest this will also be a treat.  We hope to see many of you there.

I have asked to make special mention this week of our Christmas Fair next Wednesday afternoon. This was an excellent and very popular innovation last year, and a lovely family event. The College Wind Band and Year Six Choir will be performing, there will be many colorful stalls, and I understand there will be a special guest visitor from the North Pole. Somehow Mr Randall has obtained all the inside information about this, and he can be contacted for any further information at peter.randall@wellingtoncollege.cn
