Wellington College China's 2021 Festival of Education promises a roster of renowned educators, researchers, industry experts and thought leaders. They will share their ideas and debate the important issues in a series of talks, panel discussions and workshops. The 2021 Festival of Education Tianjin campus live event is scheduled on 17 April 2021. We are excited to introduce to you the Tianjin keynote speakers for this year:

 

 

Ms Bella Lin

Renowned and popular parenting and science writer

 

Ms Lin holds a Master of Communication from Hong Kong Baptist University, is a parent-child communication associate trainer with Parent Effectiveness Training (P.E.T.) and is a certified educator of Happiest Baby in the US, as well as a certified trainer with the Positive Discipline Association in the UK and a level 2 psychological counsellor in China.

 

10-year radio anchor and journalist, Ms Lin is now a renowned parenting and popular science writer. She has 2.5 million+ followers on Sina Weibo and has been invited to many TV shows as a guest. She has collaborated with many popular parent and child platforms in China and is recognised as being one of the ten most impactful parent and child influencers on Sina Weibo in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

 

Mr Isaac Wang

Founder and CEO of AW Education International

 

Mr Wang has been invited by the American Embassy, the American Association of International Educators and famous universities in the United States on many occasions to inspect the educational resources and teaching staff of nearly 100 American universities and high schools.

 

Making use of the world’s top educational resources, he introduces the best international educational practice to the industry while ensuring the growth of his students through his longstanding services in the international education industry.

 

He is dedicated to cultivating an international perspective among his students and focusing on their global skills and growth. He actively explores the ways that education, science and technology can be integrated in order to establish an education service that can cater to the needs of different fields in education such as enlightenment education, K12 international education, international education planning and international talent nurturing.

 

Ms Sophie Zhang

Administrative Director of Pre-College, The Tianjin Juilliard School

 

A pianist and chamber musician, Ms Zhang has performed at venues such as the Beijing Concert Hall, Carnegie Hall, Bing Concert Hall at Stanford University, Toronto Centre for the Arts, the Canadian Opera Company’s Richard Bradshaw Theatre and the Nicholas Roerich Museum. She has also been heard on Beijing Classical Music Radio Station FM97.4 and CBC Radio Soundstreams Canada. She has appeared on stage with renowned performers such as Kim Kashkashian, Jean-Michel Fonteneau, Ian Swensen, Bonnie Hampton, the Juilliard String Quartet, the Ives String Quartet, the American String Quartet, Windscape and the Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society.

 

An active educator, Ms Zhang has presented out-each programs and lecture recitals at various institutions such as Duke University (Kunshan), Tsinghua University and San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Prior to moving to Tianjin, Ms Zhang taught applied piano at Columbia University, served as an adjunct faculty member at City University of New York and as a gallery lecturer at the Museum of Modern Art.

 

Ms Zhang is currently a doctoral candidate at Columbia University Teachers College. Her research focuses on the interdisciplinary approach to music education, particularly combining music and art. She joined The Tianjin Juilliard School in spring of 2019. In addition to her administrative role, Sophie also teaches a graduate level course on music and art in the Modern era.

 

Ms Cathy Xie

Researcher, Faculty of Education, Beijing Normal University 

 

Ms Xie, completed her PhD in Educational Leadership and Management in the University of Nottingham, UK. She is currently working as a senior research fellow in Beijing Normal University, China. Prior to that, she worked at Peking University. She also worked as Deputy Director of International Curriculum Centre (ICC) in High School Affiliated to RENMIN University of China (known as RDFZ). Her research interests include school strategy, school leadership, teacher professional learning and development. She has been a (Co-)Principal Investigator of several national, provincial projects commissioned by Education Section of Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, Development Research Centre of the State Council. “Multi-level Mixed Methods Research Design: Challenges and Benefits” is published in Educational Research. The chapter, Against the Odds: Principal Leadership Practices of a Redeployed Principal in Challenging Contexts in China”, in “International Perspectives on Low-Performing Schools”, is published in the United States.

 

Ms Hai Lan

Founder and CEO of Shangbin Education

 

Ms Lan holds Master’s degrees in Education, Psychology and Sociology. She founded Shangbin Education in 2003, the year that she graduated from the University of Munich. Since then, she has developed growth education theories, launched youth growth programmes and started a family education service platform called Lanhai Talks About Growth.

 

Ms Lan currently holds positions in a number of educational organisations. She is the vice chairman of the Council of Beijing New Vocational Skills Training Industry Alliance and an expert advisor of the Sina Education Research Institute. She is the director of the Growth Education Research Institute, the China Academy of Management Sciences, the Institute of Educational Innovation, the Family Education Research Centre and the Beijing Family Education Research Association. She is also a special consultant for the National Health Commission’s revision of the infant and child development facilitators’ professional standards.

 

Ms Christy Cao

Chairman of Powerhouse Gym China, Founder and Chairman of Omax

 

Ms Cao introduced the US fitness brand Powerhouse Gym to China in 1999. More than 20 years later, the brand is a market leader in China under her guidance. Along the way, she gained a reputation as one of the most influential leaders in China’s fitness industry. In 2019, with guidance from the State Administration of Sports, she launched OMAX, a comprehensive physical fitness programme for youth. It currently has three facilities in Beijing. Throughout her career, Ms Cao has made several appearances on major media outlets. She is also the recipient of many awards and honours, including Top 10 Healthy China in 2017; Top 10 Most Influential Fitness Figures in 2014; and Top 10 Health Club in 2011.
