Sailing Trip 2019

17 Jun 2019
25–29 May, 2019 Sailing Trip
On 25th May, eighteen young sailors departed from Tianjin for Beidaihe for our 7th Annual Sailing Trip.
The first day’s sailing was on the beach, the weather was good and everyone became accustomed with their topaz boats. Day two was blustery and overcast; we relocated about 5 km away to the marina – a new development on the man-made ‘Grape Island’. The facilities were excellent for teaching and over the next two days the foundations of ropework, sailing technique and capsize recovery were built. On Day 4 we sailed across the ocean back to the beach in convoy. The conditions were challenging and it was a significant feat that we all made it, although there was a fair amount of capsizing on route. We celebrated in the evening with a BBQ party on the beach. As we readied to return to Tianjin on Day 5, all pupils completed their log books and were signed off as having completed the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme Stage 2. Wellington’s Annual Sailing Trip proved yet again, to be wonderful for building lasting friendships and developing outdoor learning opportunities.
