James Goddard Swimming Workshop
16 May 2019
On Saturday 9th March, 16 of Wellington College International Tianjin’s most promising swimmers were given the fantastic opportunity to attend a swimming workshop with former GB Olympian and Commonwealth gold medalist, James Goddard.
During the two-hour swimming session, students had the chance to participate in a range of activities to improve their swimming performance and receive coaching tips from James. Activities included developing streamlining technique to increase speed under the water, how to complete the perfect dive at the start of a race, and important technical advice on how to minimise resistance during the front crawl stroke. Students can now use this coaching advice to improve their swimming performance during lessons and competition.
James’ visit comes at a very exciting time in the development of the Wellington College International Tianjin’s Swimming programme. With the employment of a specialist Swim Coach as of April 2019, and continued improvements being made to the overall swimming provision across the key stages, we hope to continue providing students with outstanding opportunities to unlock their potential in the pool.
James, and his colleague Ben, commented that students were extremely engaged and put in lots of effort throughout all the activities. Well done to all students who attended the day; we are already looking forward to James’ next visit!
