'Building a Village' Project

On Friday 2nd June, Milepost 3 (years 5 and 6) held their exit point for the unit 'Building a Village'. Pupils presented a model of either a village, town or city that they had made for their home project and created a persona of someone who lived there. We invited pupils and parents to come along and see the models and talk to the pupils about the characters they had created. Eli, in 5 produced the winning village for his class; a representation of Port Douglas on Australia's Gold coast. A huge effort, clearly work of his own which included the harbour with little boats, a beach and an array of shops, apartments and hotels. His character was, Gavin White, who organises trips to the Great Barrier Reef on his catamaran was very convincing and even gave discount! Eli said he enjoyed the task very much, working a little bit each day using styrofoam, card, paper and wood. Alice, as one of the gold award winners of 5B, created an imaginary town called Onnellinen in Finland. Based on her own story, in her little town, everyone living there is always happy. Great effort had been shown in her project by using materials she could find in her daily life, such as a medicine box, milk box and lego to build the town.  Alice enjoyed the project even though it took up a lot of her spare time! The projects were fantastic and the event was very successful. We would like to thank all of our parents who attended as well as the class teachers who brought their pupils along to join in.
