Stanley house Anti-bullying Assembly

23 Feb 2017
In the most recent house assembly that took place on the 7th November--the start of Wellington’s anti-bullying week--the Stanley house used it as an opportunity to talk about the theme of Anti-bullying, moreover, leading a positive life in general. The assembly involved a wide range of presentations that took on different forms: two video recordings done by year 7 and 8 provided the assembly with a lively and thought-provoking start, in which they shared their personal understanding towards the theme of anti-bullying. Then, by talking us through some informative slides, year 9 and 10 were able to raise crucial concerns regarding key questions such as ‘what is bullying’, ‘what are the effects of bullying’ and ‘how to deal with bullying’. Not to forget the short drama piece performed by Stanley’s six-form students, it was a true highlight that illustrated anti-bullying in an educational and entertaining way. The assembly was organised in a way that it was able to appeal directly to all year groups, allowing students to have a better understanding towards the different aspects of bullying and the importance of ‘taking a stand, lending a hand’. The fact that each year group worked together closely in collaboration gave the whole assembly a coherent and natural flow with interconnected ideas. Having ended the assembly with an emotional and inspirational musical performance by two talented members of the Stanley house: Helen and Alejandro, the clear message of ‘making ourselves stronger than a bully’ lingered on in each and every pupil’s heart.
