ChongYang Festival At Wellington College International Tianjin

This year, the Mandarin department kicked off Chinese Cultural Week with the celebration of ChongYang traditional festival. The Festival, first established in China in 1989, highlights the need for the younger generation to look after the older generation. Various activities for all Junior School students and teachers were ongoing throughout the week, including Chinese calligraphy, tangram, table-tennis with long chopsticks and rolling hoop for different year groups. In the Senior School, there were House competitions consisting of Chinese traditional games, including Kongming Locker, Bamboo-copter, spinning top and more. Special guests were invited to host professional workshops such as Chinese archery, a tea traditional ceremony, Chinese painting and Chinese zither. One of the key highlights of the week saw a Chinese drama production of Sunrise, performed by our first year A Level students. They impressed the audience with some remarkable acting skills and rich feelings. The final day of the week saw various activities, such as Traditional Dress with both pupils and teachers wearing different colorful traditional costumes, tasting Chinese traditional dim sum and a charity sale of Chinese traditional pastries for the school charity programme. From this cultural week, pupils, parents and staff received a deeper understanding of both traditional customs and the ChongYang festival itself.
