The U-14s boys’ football
The U-14s boys’ football team marked another successful fixture with a 3-2 victory at IST yesterday, with goals from Year 9 stalwarts Ronan (2) and Johnathon. It was the second victory over IST in a month, following hard on the heels of their stunning ISCOT triumph at the end of September. The boys played superb football during the ISCOT tournament, beating IST 4-2 and TEDA IS 2-0 in the group stage. The only defeat came in a close-fought 3-2 match with TIS, a game that Wellington should have won, having at one stage led 2-0. TIS are a very strong and athletic side this year, though, and they rallied back to snatch a late winner. This meant that the final was between Wellington and TIS, and with the game played on an excellent artificial surface at IST, Wellington dominated to win 1-0, with the winning goal from Ronan’s penalty in the first half. It was a thoroughly deserved victory, and proved the perfect response to our recent defeats at the hands of TIS in school fixtures and the earlier group match. The entire squad (Danny, Yeun Hae, Kaiser, Ian, both Erics, Ryan, Ronan, Andy, Willy and Caleb) deserves the highest praise for their competitive spirit and determination to play stylish football throughout the event.
