Mandarin Trip - Cuisine and Cooking

In order to arouse students’ interest of learning Mandarin and give them an authentic language learning experience, the Mandarin Department organized a field trip for our Senior Mandarin as a foreign language learners, to visit, Cheese Member, a baking studio, near Joy City.

Our Senior Mandarin pupils, advanced level, also had Cuisine and Cooking as their first learning topic of this academic year. The trip was to immerse pupils in an authentic language environment through cake making, in addition to classroom learning. To successfully finish their task, they were required to read and understand a recipe in Mandarin, follow the instructions from staff and communicate with them in Mandarin during the whole process of around 2 hours. Subsequent follow-on work by the pupils such as oral presentations and writing a short blog for the website were born out of this trip. These outside outings are part of several initiatives organized by the Mandarin department to enhance the students learning of Mandarin.
