Music and Sports with St. Florian Boy’s Choir

29 Aug 2016
Music and Sports with St. Florian Boy’s Choir Earlier in the week, we were delighted to welcome the St. Florian Boy’s Choir to the College for an afternoon of performance and sports with our pupils, parents and staff. The Junior School were lucky enough to attend a short performance in the Seldon Theatre, during which time the Choir performed traditional Austrian choral and dance routines in addition to more recognizable choral music. The highly entertaining and engaging chorus was performing in Tianjin for the first time, following performances in Wuhan and Beijing. The performance was preceded by Wellington College pupil Mimi Zhou’s short welcome on the piano. Following the performance and introduction in the Seldon Theatre, the Boy’s Choir and year 7 pupils from Wellington College took to the football pitch for a friendly match. Despite vibrant Austrian chanting from the touchlines and some silky footballing skills, the College team finished as the victors with a resounding 2-0 win. The event was run in partnership with the Tianjin Grand Theatre and supported by the Tianjin TV International Channel “Hello Tianjin”, providing the touring choir with a chance to meet international friends of a similar age during their short time in Tianjin. Yesterday evening, pupils and staff in the Wellington College Chamber Choir were delighted to attend the official performance of the St. Florian Boy’s Choir at the Tianjin Grand Theatre. Led by the Music and Performing Arts Department, the trip was thoroughly well-received by all who attended with much laughter and smiles in support of their Austrian friends and peers. We wish the Choir all the best for the remainder of their tour as they now move on to Shanghai for their final performance. With a key emphasis on the Performance Arts across the College, we look forward to working more closely with local and visiting cultural institutions in order to enhance the learning experience for our pupils and wider community.
