International Earth Day at Wellington College International Tianjin

"to broaden and diversify the environmental movement worldwide and to mobilize it as the most effective vehicle to build a healthy, sustainable environment, address climate change, and protect the Earth for future generations."

In support of one of the world’s largest and most significant environmental movements, pupils, parents and staff at Wellington College International Tianjin took part in a series of academic initiatives and community events that further developed and enhanced understandings of our planet from an environmental perspective. Pupils and staff swapped shirts and ties for anything green, with special assemblies being held for both Junior and Senior Schools. Pupils in the Nest worked on innovative projects that used recycled and environmentally-friendly materials to create fun products such as water shakers, in addition to using organic materials to produce artworks. Led by the Geography Department, Senior School pupils took part in a range of projects in the expressive arts, producing artworks with an environmental focus and fashion items created from recycled products. During the afternoon, Wellington’s fourth Green Market hosted some of NE China’s most reputable and recognizable producers of organic food products alongside socially-responsible local and international institutions. Blessed with beautiful sunshine, this community event allowed pupils and parents to share their wishes for the environment with others, whilst actively learning from groups that operate sustainably within the local economy.
