Year 5 & 6 Beijing Culture Trip
Last week, Years 5 and 6 went on an overnight trip to Beijing. We stepped off the bus and went straight into a traditional Beijing roast duck restaurant near Tiananmen Square. Filled up on authentic Beijing dishes, we ventured to Jingshan Park and hiked up to the top of the hill, for an aerial view of the Forbidden City. After taking in the stunning view, we set off for an exploration of a Hutong. We mapped the street and competed against each other in a scavenger hunt! Beginning outside the Confucian Temple, we had to navigate with a compass to find different locations. Snapping pictures and haggling with local bakers worked up an appetite. A highlight of dining in the Hutongs has to be the delicious fried dumplings before bedtime and Lights out at 9:30pm. The next morning, after a hearty breakfast, we climbed 4000+ steps to reach the Mutianyu Great Wall. Gathered in the guard tower with sandwiches, the students were fascinated to learn about General Wu Sangui, and the Qing conquest of the Ming. Finally, we rushed down the steps again to squeeze in a spot of shopping before heading home to Tianjin.
