A Scarily Awesome Halloween at Wellington

13 Jan 2016
A Scarily Awesome Halloween at Wellington If you go down to the school today, you’re in for a big surprise… With the witching hour fast approaching, Friday 30th October saw the pupils and staff at Wellington celebrate Hallowe’en in characteristically scary-style. Some wonderful costumes and real personalities were quite literally on show throughout the course of the day, which began with a ghostly parade around the campus by the Junior School. These pupils truly showed their individuality and creativity, with a whole range of superheroes being represented along with the typical Hallowe’en characters – Junior School Pumpkin Jacks, mini-monsters, trainee Vampires, wicked witches, wonderful werewolves, ghoulish ghosts, and so many more, all marched alongside Captain America, the Transformers, Spiderman, the Incredible Hulk, ET, Ironman. Quite frightening, indeed… Earlier on in the week, a House Competition got the pupils in the mood as a Pumpkin-Carving competition took place in the Black Box. With two carvers per House team, the true feelings towards Hallowe’en were expressed in pumpkin-form, with the Anglesey duo of Daniela and Nicole ultimately triumphing and being awarded Pumpkin Queens for their Jack O’Lantern. Senior school pupils and some really terrifying teachers then took to the stage, in the annual Costume Competition. With Mr. Higgins, Mr. Jeffrey, Mr. Randall and Ms. Shen reluctantly seated in the front row of the Seldon Theatre, some thoroughly imaginative and inspirational outfits were exhibited by the pupils from all year groups across the Seniors. Winners were applauded and cheered for their magnificent efforts, and everyone enjoyed taking part. The greatest moment of the day, however, came in the aftermath of arguably the finest expression of artistic and creative scariness to occur within the Wellington school year – the decorating of the House Rooms. With the judging criteria offering points for ‘Scariness’, ‘Creativity’ and ‘Theme’, both the Master and the Second Master had an extremely tough decision on their hands. Whilst all Houses created true houses of horrors, the eventual winner was awarded to the Stanley House, with Anglesey and Orange as the Runners-Up. In addition to all the parents who supported the day, and not forgetting of course our wonderful pupils who were so eager to get involved, a great many thanks must be extended to the Housemasters, as well as all the teaching staff in general, for supporting a spectacularly spooky day at Wellington.
