Wellington College Sailing Trip 2015

During the short half term break, 26 students from years 7-11 and 3 members of staff went on a five-day sailing trip to Beidaihe. This was Wellington’s third annual trip. Our hosts, Beijing Sailing Centre, have an excellent beachside location, and all pupils and staff had an educational and fun-packed week. This year was also a little different from previous years as Windsurfing, Kayaking, Paddle-boarding and Surfing were introduced into the program. All pupils had a chance to develop skills in all disciplines and the progress made over the week was impressive. All newbies in Sailing achieved the Bronze award from IYT and will receive their certificates in a school assembly before the end of term. More experienced sailors took further steps in their silver award and the whole team achieved Level 2 in Windsurfing. We were also blessed with a couple of really sunny evenings so pupils, staff and instructors played beach football and volleyball on the stunning golden sands of BSC’s beach. There were some epic games, much laughter and many brightly lit faces. The whole trip fostered friendships, developed team and leadership skills and will have embedded golden memories that pupils will cherish for many years to come.
