Senior Sports Day 2015
13 Jan 2016
Wellington College International Tianjin Senior Sports Day proved to be another hot and competitive event.
With the increase in numbers in the senior school participation was high, and many athletes were not only gunning for House glory but also had one eye on breaking school records. With very little wind and bright sunshine, conditions were almost perfect. Daiwon had a great day breaking records in the 100m and triple jump. His battles with Ryoken, another record breaker in the hurdles, proved to be a highlight of the day and both students spurred each other on throughout. The girls in year 9 also competed well throughout the day with Subin and Billie breaking previous records. Indeed the year 9 competition was a great event as anticipated. All of the students involved worked really hard and should be thrilled with the progress they have made.
In the upper school a number of athletes stood out. Cheol, Bill, Charlotte, Tony, Annie and Suzi all worked hard during the day. It is a pleasure seeing how much the House means to the students. Bill set a new shot put record, pushing an impressive 14.7 m. He also finally broke Kieran’s high jump record. Traditionally, shot putt and high jump are not seen as transferrable skills, and his success highlights what a talented power athlete he is. Cheol marked his first and last Wellington sports day with record breaking performances in long jump, shot putt and javelin. A fine way to leave a mark at Wellington. JaeBin saved the day to perform his best ever javelin through. Throwing a distance of 34.8 m and breaking a record in the process.
The year 7 students enjoyed their first senior sports day and adapted well to the increase in intensity. Chae demonstrated her athletic potential by breaking Billie Archer’s 200m record with a time of 33.02 seconds. All of the students performed well and it was pleasing to see every athlete give their best for the houses.
In the end Wellesley emerged the winners. From Wellesley Billie collected the best female athlete in Key Stage 3 award, with DaeWon getting the male award. In the seniors Suzi collected the best female award and Bill collected the best male.
All of the students invested a lot of time and effort into the day.
