Henry Bell – Chief Economist at the UK Embassy in Beijing, speaks at Wellington College International Tianjin
13 Jan 2016
Speaking about recent trends in China’s economy and likely future prospects, Chief Economist at the UK Embassy in Beijing, Henry Bell, addressed an audience consisting of senior pupils, teachers and the local business community at Wellington College International Tianjin. Highlighting “three R’s” as trends that characterize the Chinese economy in the present day – rebalancing, regionalization and reforms, Henry’s lecture covered the macro-economy, the reform process and China’s economic role in the region. Current Treasurer for the Universities China Committee in London – Madeleine Sturrock, also shared with the audience her experiences in working with Tianjin and in particular, TEDA, with both speakers offering advice to future generations of businesspeople.
The lecture – held in cooperation with the China-Britain Business Council and the British Chamber of Commerce in China, is one in a series of lectures planned at Wellington College International Tianjin that aims to address topics of global significance to future generations of business leaders. The talk was followed by a thought-provoking question and answer session, during which time students and other attendees were able to challenge the views of the two speakers – an opportunity that was well-received on both sides. By facilitating interactions - not only between younger generations and experienced professionals, but also across organisations located in unique and dynamic cities, the school continues to be a vital bridge between different spheres of an increasingly connected global society.
