The Pushes and Pulls in Milepost 1 – Looking Back at Highlights
13 Jan 2016
Milepost 1 recently ended their Push Me Pull You IPC unit with a fun-filled Exit activity.
Children got to fly kites that they had designed and made, experiencing first-hand how pushes and pulls kept them in the air. We then had our lunch outdoors followed by a Round Robin of fun games. Here are some highlights of this fun unit from each class:
The Owls : In the Owls Class we had a lot of fun discovering the ways in which the different forces work. We especially enjoyed the activities that took us out into the playground, such as the challenge to find a way of using water as a pushing force, to move things. We also had a great time playing a game that used air as a pulling force, to go fishing in our classroom. The unit finished with an energetic session where we observed air working as a pushing force, carrying the kites that we designed and made high into the air - an 'uplifting' experience for all!
The Ospreys : The Osprey class enjoyed exploring forces within this unit. Most memorable was experimenting with water to see how it has force and how it could affect a range of different balls. We saw the water stop a moving ball, make a ball change direction and also increase its speed. We also enjoyed the air resistance investigation.
The Eagles : Well, the children in this class underestimated the importance of forces. When they discovered that everything we do requires some kind of force, their attention was grabbed! There was no better way to investigate this than their favourite place in the school: their playground. We played a number of favourite playground games, each time establishing what pulls, pushes and twists were required to actually make them enjoyable.
The Kingfishers : The Kingfishers really loved discovering all the pushes and pulls that could be found in the playground environment. We returned to the classroom with a camera full of photos to discuss our findings
