Middle School Football Match
13 Jan 2016
Wellington College International Tianjin hosted Tianjin Ling Dang Ge Middle School for a football trial match played over 4 quarters. It was the first time we had played against Ling Dang Ge and it presented an excellent opportunity to broaden our range of fixtures within Tianjin. It also allowed the players the opportunity to meet and compete against a new set of players. This is great for learning and social development. Our middle school side has continued to work hard and improve throughout the year and all of the sides selected played with application and skill. Evan Lee had a fine performance showing energy and excellent skill. He always selected the right time to pass and he kept possession and threatened regularly capping a fine performance with a deserved goal. SeongBin had a productive game up front, as did Daniel Kim. Both players have made huge strides this year and are settling into the middle school side well. They are not afraid to take up attacking positions and go looking for the ball. It was very pleasing to see all of the 24 players involved so eager to impress. It helps generate a very positive team atmosphere and with all of the players striving to claim a starting place they have pushed each other to improve. Willy Kim entered the second quarter with the intention to impress and he did just that by scoring a typical poachers goal at the near post. It was also pleasing to see Alejandro and Oscar playing again. Both players demonstrated their experience and helped the younger players around them. One such young player was Harold, and he played with an authority and understanding of a student much older. He had no hesitation in demanding the ball and he directed a number of purposeful attacks and contributed many assists to the attacking players.
The final score was 6-0 to Wellington. This was pleasing as the level of opposition was high and all of the players involved played with confidence and the correct sporting spirit. I was very happy to see new players like JunYoung, Hyun Shu and Jimmy Kim coming into the team. They all made a significant contribution.
Many thanks to Mr Turner, Mr Moran, Mr Burnett, Mr Gillmore and Mr Fowler for their help. Thanks also to the staff and students who came to support.
