ISCOT Middle School Badminton 20th March

Wellington hosted the ISCOT middle school competition this year, and it proved to be a thoroughly enjoyable day for all involved. TIS choose to not enter a side so it ended up being a 3 way competition between IST, TEDA and Wellington. All of the players selected performed very well, and it was a delight to see the badminton talent on show. Sarah, Yubin and Bella all played for TEDA as some of their players were unavailable. It was a credit to the girls how committed and determined they were, and they were a shining example of sportsmanship and did TEDA and Wellington very proud. In the year 7/8 competition the girls team performed with distinction. Helen won all the 1st seed match ups, Ally won all the 2nd seed match ups and doubles pair Stella and Cindy continued the theme with straight wins. Another success story came from the Lee twin brothers Evan and Elliot. As a pair they were undeafeted and had excellent 3 set games against TEDA and IST. All of the players selected played well and it was a close call throughout the tournament. In the end IST pinched 1st place with 16 wins to Wellington 14. TEDA finished in 3rd place. Many thanks to all the schools for attending. Thanks should also be extended to James Burnett for helping with the scoring. The CAS students Apple, Annie, Victoria and Jenny also did a tremendous job umpiring.

ISCOT Senior School Badminton 20th March @ IST

Ms Wei took a strong squad of players to IST for the Senior Badminton competition. There was a high number of games for the players and as ever the standard was of a high quality. Doubles pair Joseph Cooper and Yeong Lin had a fine afternoon claiming a bronze medal and third place. Jason Liu also did well against stiff competition finishing in 3rd place. Number 1 seed Tony Chen justified his position picking up the gold in a very competitive field. Well done to all of the players selected.

Thanks also to Ms Wei, Ms Archer and Mr Maliphant for all the hard work she has put into coaching the badminton players.

Maple Leaf Badminton Competition. 13th and 14th March

Wellington were delighted to be invited to a Badminton competition involving all the Schools in the Maple Leaf Chinese Community. Wellington College International Tianjin is pleased to have such a close link with the school, and the competition served up some very stiff competition for the players. Lots of games were played over the 2 days with result’s dictating the set up for the finals. Female captain Ada Chen played well throughout the 2 days. She had good games against all of the schools and found herself in the final against Maple Leaf TEDA. Ada played well but was beaten by a very high caliber player. It was a similar story for Tony Chen. He won most of his games but came unstuck against the Maple Leaf TEDA seed. The standard in the finals was high and the crowd was treated to some top level badminton. Girls double’s pair Charlotte and Tavia also made the final. History repeated itself again and Maple Leaf finished the victors.

After the competition all of the players ate together and took part in a presentation. Tony deservedly won best sports man and Wellington finished in 2nd place.
