ISCOT Elementary Chess Competition

11 Jan 2016

On Saturday 11th Wellington College International Tianjin played host to the ISCOT Chess competition. TEDA, IST and TIS all brought strong looking squads with an age range of students between years 3 to 6.  In total 30 players took part in the event. The standard of chess was very high throughout the day. Wellington captain, Jeff Song led the team superbly throughout the day and finished with a strong win against Koki from IST. His best performance, however, was reserved for a four move check out against Mr. Williams. In the year 3 competition the semifinal was an all Wellington affair, with Joseph Lloyd playing the impressive and calculated JiHo Jung. The first game finished a draw and then Joseph seized his moment against the younger player and won the second game taking him to the final. Joseph played very well in the final and secured a win and 1st place finish.

After all the points were calculated it emerged that TIS had won the competition. Just rewards for the hard work their coach has put into chess throughout the year. IST finished 2nd with Wellington 3rd and TEDA 4th. All of the students involved should be delighted with their contribution and I hope they continue to play and enjoy the game of chess. Many thanks to Mr. Conorton, Ms. Edgley, Mr. Williams and Mr. Jeffrey for their support throughout the day.
