Wellington Senior Boys Basketball team show huge improvements
Wellington vs Maple Leaf
The Wellington boys basketball team put in a good performance against a physical and well drilled Maple Leaf side. Although we have managed to secure victories in Football and Volleyball against Maple Leaf this term, basketball is always the biggest challenge. The game started brightly and the Wellington players worked much better as a team. Derrick continues to improve as a point guard, and he is a tribute to how a sports person can improve if they dedicate themselves to training. Despite Wellington's best efforts they were unable to convert their opportunities. On another day many of the lay ups would have gone in. Maple Leaf built up a 10 point advantage based on solid rebounding at either end. The two Jason's worked well in the first two quarters, and new arrivals James, Tony, Jin, Lucas and Willy made positive contributions to the team. Wellington refused to give up and managed to drag the game into a close competition in the final quarter. John had one of his best games for the College. He has always been a fine player, but it was impressive to see how much work he put in on defence and also his ability to bring others into the game. Bill has also made good progress as a player, and is starting to demonstrate more athleticism. Maple Leaf won what was a very good game by 11 points. The Wellington players and coaches showed be very pleased with the progress they have made.
Wellington at ISCOT
The Wellington team put in some strong performance at the annual ISCOT Senior Basketball competition. IST, TEDA, TIS and TIS Junior Varsity were all there and every team has a strong squad of players capable of performing. Wellington finished runners up in a very close and exhausting competition. 5 matches were played in total and it is a testament to the players effort that they performed so valiantly throughout.
Thanks must go to Head Coach Eddie Zakarian and Boaquan Wang for all the hard work they have invested into the team.
