Wellington College: Changing Lives
“The way this school, and living in China, has changed me as a person really was a once in a life time experience”….
One of last year’s Year 13 leavers wrote to us after his recent examination success. He told us about his experiences at Wellington College International Tianjin:
“Having recently graduated from Wellington College, I have been trying to reflect on my time there, and how it developed me as a person. Moving to China for Sixth Form was, in itself, a wonderful experience, however I feel the experience wouldn’t have been the same without Wellington.
Initially I was nervous joining the school, as one typically is when faced with new experiences, however I felt very welcomed by the members of staff, and students, and I quickly settled in to my routine. Being placed in Blücher House, every morning I would go along, and have some joke with the Housemaster Mr. Lloyd, and in general I felt this created a very homely atmosphere, which in turn made me look forward to going to House sessions.
Two particular aspects of the school stood out to me; one was the sporting facilities, and the other being the school shows. The development I gained from the sports really expanded my horizons in sports in which I could potentially continue, such as how I used to refuse to play football, yet I quickly settled in as goalkeeper for the school football team. I took part in three shows whilst attending WCIT and, having done 12+ shows before moving, I can say I’ve never experienced anything quite like a WCIT show!
Lessons felt very personalised, particularly because the classes were very small which led to having almost one-on-one tutoring. The standard of teaching was of a high level, and it really helped develop my knowledge in the subjects, particularly in Geography, taught by one of the most well-travelled, interesting people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. The way this school, and living in China, has changed me as a person really was a once in a life time experience, as I feel I am more open-minded now, and willing to try anything. I have been accepted into Edinburgh Napier University to do a BSc in Computer Security and Forensics and upon graduation I hope to move to New Zealand, or California, to work for a few years.”
We wish him, and all our leavers from 2014, the very best of luck at university and beyond. They will always be part of the Wellington family.
