Wellington Under 14s vs Dulwich Beijing
On Wednesday 30th April the under 14s football team made the long journey to Beijing to play Dulwich.
Captained by Jaibin, the Wellington team started slowly and struggled to get possession. The Dulwich players passed the ball very well, and demonstrated why they are one of the top school teams in China. Gradually Wellington started to exert some control with the great efforts of Oscar, Clint, Lucian, Daiwon, Ryoken and Roy. After 20 minutes the first goal of the game was scored, unfortunately for Wellington, by Dulwich. Things got worse as Dulwich added a second moments later to make it 2 -0 in the first half.
The Wellington players started the second half with vigor, and nearly made the dream start when Jaibin was put through on goal. Unfortunately the keeper made a strong save to prevent the goal. As Wellington chased the game they naturally left gaps in defence due to attacking exuberance. This meant that Dulwich were able to exploit Wellington on the counter attack.
Eventually Wellington scored the goal they rightfully deserved. After a sweeping move, Jaibin lifted the ball over the defense and sent Daiwon through on goal. Daiwon showed pace and composure and slotted the ball into the back of the net.
In the end the game finished 5-1 to Dulwich. The Wellington players should be pleased with how they performed. This game helped show the players the level that they should aspire to with future competitions on the horizon.
