Fabulous French Week! “La Francophonie!”
The week of the 21st of March celebrated all things French as part of Francophone Week; a world-wide event.
The French-themed assembly was the highlight of the week with many pupils and teachers who speak or study French taking part in a performance in the Black Box. This included a fashion show, a screening of a French short animated film, a talk from the head of the Alliance Française in Tianjin and a dance routine to a French hit, choreographed by the pupils with help from Jane Griffiths.
Outside the Black Box, pupils competed in houses in a number of quizzes and challenges which covered most of the subjects taught in the Senior School; from art to design to economics and history. Most popular, unsurprisingly, was a food table where pupils named famous French dishes and ingredients and tasted different cheeses. France has over 300 types of cheese!
Pupils from each house were also set a KTV-style challenge of recording two very different songs in French- the French National Anthem and a punk song of the 70’s by Plastic Bertrand. The results were interesting to say the least! Thanks to Mr Gerrard for showing them how it is done…
It was great to see everyone working together as teams, both in the show and for the quizzes, and to hear they had really enjoyed it. The results were very close, but the winner of the quiz competition was Stanley house who were treated to a French breakfast.
