Year 8 Geography Trip
Year 8 Geography students have been studying coastlines and coastal processes as part of their topic of Coasts. One of the central aims of this unit of study is to foster an understanding of the dynamic nature of coastlines. Students study how waves continually erode, transport and deposit coastal sediments, and how the shape of coastlines shifts and changes over time.
As part of this study, Year 8 students undertook a piece of fieldwork to the coastal region of Beidaihe during the Michaelmas term. Students used a range of fieldwork equipment to measure wind direction, wave counts, longshore drift, and sediment particle sizes. They also learned to draw field-sketches working in teams. The students were accompanied by Mrs. Goefron, Mr. O’Sullivan and Mr. Jonsson. The sunny weather and calm conditions along the beach made for an enjoyable day out and fun was had by all!
