Wellington College International Science Fair Assembly

11 Jan 2016

In the Science assembly on 12th February, the Senior School were disgusted by a bloody dissection , dazzled by colorful flames, dumbfounded by bizarre reactions and dazed by an unexpected explosion, to name just a few!

The theme of the assembly was the “Wellington College International Science Fair”, which saw students acting as famous scientists throughout the ages presenting their research. Students volunteered from a range of year groups and over the course of 5 weeks they were taught to perform various experiments safely on stage. It was a superb assembly which was well received all round. Based on student votes Alfred Nobel (played by a girl in Y10!) won the science fair with her attempt to make explosives in order to have a peace prize dedicated to her. As a grand finale the Master, Mr Fowler, was invited to the stage and bravely allowed a student to ignite butane gas bubbles on his hand… One wonders how many head teachers have actually been set alight by a student!
