Remembrance Assembly
Attended for the first time by Joy Qiao, who leads the Governing Board, our third Remembrance Assembly once again focused on the sacrifice and loss of Wellington College pupils in the wars of the 20th century. killfully put together and narrated by our visiting History exchange teacher, Julian Jeffrey, the assembly was very largely based around the recently returned History trip to Europe, where among other places, pupils visited the very battlefields on which so many laid down their lives.
Beyond the sacrifices made by Wellingtonians in these conflicts, the label “world war” was given real meaning, and a particular resonance for us here in Tianjin, when photographs were shown of the graves of members of the Chinese Labour Corps, who died around Ypres in the First World War.
Readings by pupils and staff, in Chinese as well as in English, combined with images to set a very compelling and reflective tone.
