Wellington History Trip to Western Europe
Between 6th and 16th November, 37 pupils and their teachers travelled around Europe for Wellington’s annual History and culture trip. The trip’s first stop was the City of Light: Paris and its major attractions. Pupils then travelled to Northern France to visit the First World War battlefields and cemeteries, including Newfoundland Memorial at Beaumont Hamel and Thiepval memorial.
On 11th November - Remembrance Day, Wellington pupils participated to the Ceremony at the Menim Gate in Ypres (Belgium) and then went to the cemetery at Lijssentoek, where several graves belonging to members of the Chinese Labour Corps who died in the area of Ypres and Poperinghe during and after the First World War.
A trip to the medieval town of Bruges to learn about its history and understand how well preserved it is. A further highlight was followed, visiting the site of the Battle of Waterloo to learn more of the heritage and history of the College. The next day, they journeyed on to Brussels and then Amsterdam where the pupils visited the Anne Frank’s house.
One of the goals of this trip was to show students how diverse Europe’s cities are even though they are close together, as well as to get a better understanding of European.
