French and Mexican Breakfast - Raising Money for UNICEF
On Wednesday and Thursday of UN week the V&A Cafe opened its doors to both pupils and staff to come and enjoy a French and Mexican breakfast at break time.Transformed into a vibrant café with salsa music playing in the background, menus written in French and Spanish and Le Figaro to read whilst sampling something new to eat, it was the place to be at 11am.
Le petit déjeuner included hot chocolate, juice, baguette and croissants served by several hard-working, but keen cooks behind the counter; Jenny, Christina and Mrs Popovic. On the Mexican front, Billie, Claire, Bill, Katie and Chae Yeun were, amongst others, sweating over a hot stove preparing quesadillas with salsa de tomate and a homemade Mexican chili sauce generously provided by Señora Reyes. (AKA Dani and Miguel’s mum.)
All the pupils learning Spanish and French from year 7 to year 12 were involved in finding out about the cuisine to offer, deciding on prices, designing eye-catching posters to advertise the event, serving the breakfasts and even washing up after! (Thanks to Oscar, Stella and Billie for doing that least glamorous of tasks!) Not only was it a fun experience but we also raised 1250RMB for UNICEF; a great result for a first attempt. After positive feedback from all involved we hope to be able to repeat the experience again later in the year.
