Y11 Geography Trip to Longyunshan
The Year 11 Geography students had the opportunity to visit the Longyunshan scenic area north of Beijing, on a short residential field trip from October 16th to 18th. This area is dominated by mountains and river valleys, and the purpose of the visit was to study the Baihe river which snakes its way through dramatic gorges before flowing into the Miyun reservoir. The fieldwork skills practiced here will form part of the final IGCSE examination in June next year.
Over the course of two days, students measured various characteristics of the river. The first location saw students take their first tentative steps in attempting to wade across a rather cold river, with Sanghun looking more than doubtful as to whether he could actually get across. By the time he was half way across, the doubt had turned into one of the widest smiles I have seen, and by the second day it became difficult to keep Reanne, Changsu, Sangyeun and Sanghun away from the river!
All in all, the trip proved to be a success and our Year 10 students will have the opportunity to repeat the trip in the next academic year.
