Blucher House Assembly – First of the New Term
This week saw the first house assembly of the new term. Blucher presented it, and based it around breast cancer and in particular the Pink Ribbon charity. After two weeks of planning and gathering facts, they were ready to go. The assembly started with a brief overview of the charity, giving audience students a few details about breast cancer, led by Head of House, Kieran Newton. Sung Bae came next, bringing some facts to the table. One of which was that 1 in 8 women are affected by breast cancer. Lara and Jae Bin then showed two videos, one containing facts about breast cancer survival rates and then another about a man whose wife has had breast cancer.
Gilbert made his debut on the Wellington stage giving information about different events going on in Tianjin, and a heart-warming story about a woman who survived breast cancer through the kindness of her community.
Next up came Alina from the Chinese Sixth Form, who presented some facts about how to prevent breast cancer, as well as warning the audience students about the importance of getting yourself checked. Elaine followed this with positive news about funds raised over the last half a decade and Ada concluded with what we can do to help, which included raising awareness, joining events and raising money for charities.
All round it was a very successful assembly, and the Head of House encourages everyone to participate in as many events as possible, and try to raise awareness of breast cancer as it has affected families all over the world. With more people helping and supporting the charity they feel they can help to make a difference.
