Wellington College Hosts Its Inaugural Summer Fayre

On Saturday, 19th May, Wellington College held its first Summer Fayre, which saw around 700 pupils, parents and friends of the school come together for a wonderful day of family fun.  In the run-up to the big day a competition was held to design the special t-shirt given to every Wellington student to wear on the day of the Fayre. The winning design was by Christina Su in Year 5. The event opened with songs performed by the Junior School students after which the Master of Wellington College, David Cook, declared the Fayre open. There was an international food hall featuring food from the many countries represented among the student body at the school, along with a BBQ area, popcorn and candy floss and a beer tent and wine tasting area. Among the many activities on offer were a bouncy slide, bouncy castle, wet play area, student musical performances, Chinese culture demonstrations and a wonderful array of student inspired games stalls including soak the teacher, beat the goalie, welly wanging, hook a duck, guess the number of sweets, nail art and tattoos, walk the plank and not forgetting special guest appearances by Kung Fu Panda, Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse! Children collected stamps at the stalls in their Fayre passport booklets to claim a special prize. The day ended with a dance performance and a raffle, with prizes including hampers, wine, hotel vouchers, flights and children’s bicycles. Following the success of the Summer Fayre, plans are already underway for a Christmas event at the end of the year.
