First Day at School
From the Master:
Tuesday, 23rd August 2011
Dear Parents,
As you have probably noticed, I have now adopted the title of Master, in line with practice at Wellington College in the UK. Murray Fowler will henceforth be the Second Master.
Yesterday was a day none of us at Wellington is ever likely to forget. I know you will have all heard very full reports of it from your child(ren). For posterity, I have enclosed a few photographs of the All-School Assembly and two of the classes. I have only the highest regard for the Years 12, 11, 10, 7 and 6 pupils, who I have had the privilege of teaching history to so far. They have been very involved in the subject matter, good at answering questions and hard working. Walking round the various classes yesterday afternoon, it was obviously a similar story all over the College. I was particularly taken with Year 10 Music lesson, where the pupils were playing glockenspiels and xylophones in synchronization by the end of the lesson, but I know you will all agree that the Wellington teachers have done a great job on the first couple of days.
Another highlight yesterday was the first All-School assembly and I am delighted to be able to invite you to our first Parents’ Assembly at 2.50pm on Friday, 26th August, to be held in the College Theatre. All of the pupils will be present and some of them will be performing in a variety of ways. Several governors from both Wellington here and in the UK will be present. The assembly will last around 40 minutes and should be the ideal way to climax our first week at the College.
Other dates for your diaries are Friday, 9th September, when Dr Anthony Seldon, Master of Wellington College in the UK, will be present at the second Parents’ Assembly, to open officially the College theatre, and this Sunday, 28th August, when there is a polo match between Wellington and Marlborough at the Metropolitan Polo Club in Tianjin.Further details can be obtained from Jenny Zhang at the Club at jennyzhang@metropolitanpoloclub.com or on +22 83728888 ext.7853,or 13752795953 I look forward to seeing you at the Parents’ Assembly this Friday.
Best wishes,
David Cook
