Wellington College International Tianjin Officially Announced

Wellington College has announced that its first international school outside the United Kingdom will be opening in August 2011 in Tianjin, China.

The ground breaking ceremony for Wellington College International Tianjin was held on 1st September 2009 and was attended by Dr. Anthony Seldon, Master of Wellington College, as well as top officials from the Ministry of Education and the Tianjin Municipality Government.

Wellington College was founded by Queen Victoria in 1859 as the national monument to Britain's greatest military figure, the Duke of Wellington, who also served the country with distinction twice as Prime Minister.

Wellington College is one of the most respected schools in the UK and also one of the greatest leaders in pioneering and transforming education for young girls and boys. It is a vibrant and popular co-educational school where girls and boys learn to be leaders for life. This year the college celebrates 150 years of commitment to providing the highest possible standards of education for young people. Wellington College International Tianjin will provide the same high standards of excellence and depth of education as Wellington College.

Centrally located on a newly purpose-built campus in the city centre of Tianjin, the College will boast impressive facilities designed in the distinctive classical style of Wellington College including fully equipped interactive classrooms, a library, an indoor gymnasium, a sports field, a swimming pool and a state-of-the-art theatre. The College will cater for all children aged from 3 to 18, with a dedicated nursery block housing the younger pupils on the same site.
