A Summer of English & Discovery for Ages 5–12!

This summer, young learners will embark on an exciting bilingual adventure through two action-packed terms!

In Term 1: "Our Amazing Planet," campers aged 5–9 and 10–12 will explore Earth’s wonders—from animal adaptations to ecosystems—through hands-on projects like designing hybrid creatures, building habitat dioramas, and creating conservation campaigns.  Younger students will focus on storytelling and crafts (e.g., "My jungle animal has rainbow stripes to hide in flowers!"), while older groups tackle debates and record mini-podcasts about protecting endangered species.

In Term 2: "Mission to Space,"the adventure launches into the cosmos! Students will invent their own planets, craft aliens from recycled materials, and role-play as astronauts. Ages 5–9 will create glow-in-the-dark constellations and simple "planet passports," while older campers (10–12) design Mars colonies and compete in Space Trivia battles. Both terms use inquiry-based learning to boost English skills—Term 1 grounds lessons in nature and teamwork, while Term 2 ignites the imagination with interstellar exploration!

Learning Highlights:

Vocabulary & Creativity: Master science-themed words (ecosystem, gravity) through art and games.

Critical Thinking: Solve fun challenges like "Can dolphins survive in space?" or "What does your alien eat?"

You’ll also be looking at the universe and learning about the solar system and stars. There will be construction projects to make the strongest buildings and bridges.  Through the summer course, I hope to introduce new science words to your vocabulary. You should know how to develop a scientific way of thinking.

Summer Camp Music & Drama Course Introduction

This course is designed for children in age groups from 5 years old to 10 years old. Over this course, children are learning drama performing skills in terms of performing arts, including projection and voice, movements, emotions facial expressions and space. As it’s a combined drama course with music, children will also learn some skills from musicianship such as beat, rhythm, tempo and pitch. Each session will focus on 1 or 2 drama and music skills.

The course is across different age group, so the knowledge and all the input for children to learn will be differentiated to suit different age level. For example, young primary school children are focused producing the skills in an ensemble/group play. However, older children can demonstrate what they learned from the course with more solo/individual performance involved.

The final production for this course is to have a showcase to show the skills that the children learned from this course. The production will be a musical drama play, which children are going to star in different characters, to say their lines and sing the songs.

图片

About the show

The show and its scripts are an original piece, but initially, the whole idea comes from the musical film Matilda. The theme of this play is about dreams and growing up. As we have three different classes with different ages, children in the play will talk about their dreams and what they want to do when they grow up in different views.

The play will be divided into three scenes, each scene is started by one class of children. The youngest group are saying their lines together somehow as well as singing a song based on the theme. However, the other groups of children can do some solo performances, also the songs they’re going to sing are harder with more arrangements (stage movement and body movement). It depends on the children’s level, we can also have more props and even instruments involved.

Term II

Welcome to the exciting world of English Debate, where young minds come together to explore ideas and sharpen critical thinking through spirited discussions!

In this summer camp, pupils will engage in interactive activities designed to foster confidence in speaking, enhance listening skills, and nurture teamwork. They will work in small groups to debate a variety of age-appropriate topics, ensuring a lively and engaging experience. Each session will be filled with fun games and exercises that not only teach the principles of debate but also the importance of respecting different viewpoints and collaborating for a common goal.

Our learning objective is focused on empowering pupils to express their ideas clearly and confidently. By the end of the camp, participants will be adept at constructing arguments, responding to opposing views, and using evidence to support their claims. They will follow a curriculum that gently introduces the fundamentals of debate through playful tasks, and tackles debates on real-life topics.

Throughout the camp, we incorporate dynamic activities like "Debate Battles," where students pair up to playfully argue their points in front of an audience of peers, and "Fact vs Fiction," a game designed to hone their ability to distinguish between reliable sources and unsubstantiated claims. These challenges are not only educational but also foster an environment of curiosity and fun. By participating in these tasks, pupils will develop a love for learning and a passion for exploring the world through thoughtful debate, setting them on a lifelong journey of discovery and empowerment.

This course integrates English language learning with cutting-edge technology to create a dynamic and immersive educational experience. By aligning with the language points covered in the English lessons, students will apply their knowledge in practical, engaging scenarios using ClassVR equipment. These virtual reality experiences will transport learners into realistic settings where they can practice and enhance their English writing and speaking skills in context. Additionally, the course incorporates Chatterpix, a creative software tool that allows students to produce lively, animated outputs, such as talking characters or objects, to demonstrate their English proficiency in a fun and interactive way. This approach not only reinforces language acquisition but also encourages creativity and digital literacy.

图片

Beyond language development, the course fosters teamwork and technical skills through hands-on robotics activities. Students will collaborate in groups to design and control computer robotics, tackling real-world challenges that require problem-solving and critical thinking. This component not only strengthens their understanding of robotics and coding but also promotes communication and cooperation as they work together to complete tasks. By combining English language practice with VR immersion, digital creativity, and robotics, the course offers a well-rounded, engaging learning experience that prepares students for future academic and professional success in an increasingly technology-driven world.

Mathematics Explorers

Dominic Parker

Term I & II

This course is for pupils with an interest in mathematics looking to strengthen their foundations in the subject as well as to apply these skills in varying contexts. The pupils will learn about a range of topics key to success in both the Key Stage 2 and 3 British Mathematics curriculum as well as competitions such as the American Mathematics Competition and the University of Waterloo Mathematics contests. In the first term, pupils will focus on number and algebra topics, while the second term will focus on topics linked to geometry and statistics.

Example activity,

To calculate all possible outcomes of two events.

A dice-based horse race game effectively teaches fundamental probability concepts through an engaging simulation. By having pupils use the sums of two dice (ranging from 2 to 12) to represent the movement of horses, the activity reveals how probability distributions work in practice—middle numbers like 6, 7, and 8 wins most often because they have more possible combinations (e.g., six ways to make 7 versus one way to make 2). Pupils observe firsthand that while there are 11 possible sums, these outcomes are not equally likely due to varying combinatorial arrangements. The game then deepens understanding by introducing sample space diagrams, showing the 36 equally likely dice combinations and reinforcing why order matters (e.g., (1,2) differs from (2,1)). Ultimately, it demonstrates how theoretical probability (calculated through permutations) predicts real-world outcomes, while also highlighting the role of chance in decision-making.

Design and Technology

The vibrant Design and Technology class offers pupils a space to explore creativity through hands-on projects. Using materials like wood, plastic, and textiles, students engage in crafting functional and decorative items—from sculpting figurines and assembling geometric mosaics to stitching textile collages or designing accessories. Guided by experienced teachers, young artists experiment with tools such as saws, sanders and 3D pens and printers, learning to transform raw materials into polished creations. Design and Technology combines collaboration and individual growth in a lively, inclusive environment. As pupils learn to present ideas in different mediums, emphasizing sustainability, and teaching students to repurpose scraps and rethink material waste. Beyond crafting, the class nurtures critical thinking and patience, whether pupils are troubleshooting a wobbly wooden joint or refining a technique.

By the end of each session, the room buzzes with pride as students showcase their work, taking home not just art pieces but also confidence in their ability to innovate and create.
