Countdown | Miss Saigon School Edition
This Sunday, the Wellington College Tianjin's annual musical, Miss Saigon School Edition, will take place at the Seldon Theatre. Renowned for its profound themes, stirring melodies, and intricate character dynamics, this timeless masterpiece has captivated countless audiences. While the onstage performances are brilliantly executed, the behind-the-scenes narratives prove equally compelling. In this series, we explore the musical’s journey from spotlight to backstage, revealing the passion and artistry hidden beneath its surface.
A tragedy of passion and beauty, Miss Saigon is one of the most stunning theatrical spectacles of all time. Nominated for an incredible number of Olivier, Tony and Drama Desk Awards, Miss Saigon is the second massively successful offering from the creators of Les Misérables: Claude-Michel Schonberg and Alain Boublil and has now been adapted for high school performers in Miss Saigon School Edition.

Behind the Scenes
The splendour of the stage is not achieved overnight; it is the result of the hard work and tireless efforts of countless individuals. Beyond the dedication of the actors, the work of the production team is equally indispensable. The stage design team meticulously creates realistic scenes that transport the audience to the streets of Saigon. The make-up and costume team designs stunning and appropriate make-up and attire according to the characters' personalities and the historical context. Meanwhile, the lighting team skilfully crafts various atmospheres, ensuring the audience enjoys a visually and aurally captivating experience.
The orchestra also plays a vital role behind the scenes. With their exceptional skills and seamless coordination, they inject vibrant life into the entire musical. Their performance not only amplifies the emotional power of the music but also provides robust musical support for the characters' inner worlds and the plot's progression through nuanced emotional expression. Their efforts enable the audience to connect deeply with the characters' emotional highs and lows, as if they are sharing every poignant moment.

Miss Saigon School Edition is a testament to the close cooperation among team members. During rehearsals, actors supported each other in exploring their characters’ inner worlds, while the production team worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure every detail was executed flawlessly. This spirit of teamwork not only elevated the quality of the musical but also provided each participant with treasured memories.

On the stage of Wellington College Tianjin, the musical was more than just a performance; it was a profound artistic education. It taught participants how to confront challenges, leverage their strengths in a team, and convey emotions and thoughts through art.
