August: Beijing Theme
Our gastronomic journey began in August with a Beijing theme. Pupils had the opportunity to savour authentic Beijing delicacies such as roast duck, Zhajiang noodles, and douzhi. This event allowed pupils to explore Beijing's culinary culture and understand how food can bridge different cultures and histories.
September: Southeast Asia Theme
In September, we turned our focus to Southeast Asia. Pupils enjoyed dishes like Thai Tom Yum soup, Vietnamese Pho Ga, and Indian Chicken Masala. This event allowed pupils to experience exotic flavours and gain insights into the customs and traditions of Southeast Asian countries through food.
October: Halloween Theme
During Halloween, the school hosted a unique food event featuring festive treats such as pumpkin pie, ghost-shaped cookies, and pumpkin cupcakes. Pupils relished the food while also taking part in Halloween decorations and games, adding to the holiday fun.
December: Dongbei Theme
As the semester approached its end, we concluded with the flavours of Dongbei. Pupils tasted regional specialities like Guo Bao Rou, stewed chicken with mushrooms, and Di San Xian. This event provided pupils with a culinary experience reflecting the cultural characteristics of the Northeast region.
Sustainable Development Practice - "Zero Food Plate Waste" Campaign
While indulging in these culinary adventures, Wellington is also committed to fostering awareness of sustainable development among pupils. We launched the "Zero Food Plate Waste" campaign, encouraging pupils to cherish their food and reduce waste. Every clean plate action earned a stamp reward, and collecting a certain number of stamps enabled pupils to redeem limited-edition gifts from Sodexo. This initiative not only promoted the importance of environmental protection but also inspired pupils to become advocates for sustainable development.
This campaign successfully raised awareness about food waste and sparked enthusiasm for participating in sustainable practices. Through practical actions, pupils learned how to incorporate environmental concepts into their daily lives and contribute to protecting the Earth.
In summary, this series of food-themed events not only enriched the pupils' campus life but also effectively integrated the concept of sustainable development into everyday education. We believe that these activities will nurture pupils into global citizens with a sense of environmental responsibility, contributing to a greener and more sustainable world. As the new semester begins, we eagerly anticipate the "Chinese New Year" food theme on January 24th, promising joy and celebration. Stay tuned for more exciting food feasts and cultural explorations!
