The 2023 National Economics Challenge (NEC) China preliminary was successfully held in mid-December 2022. The pupils who represented Wellington College Tianjin performed exceptionally well in the event, with 11 pupils qualifying for the 2023 NEC China Finals, and 12 pupils receiving awards for their outstanding performances. Students from more than 500 schools across China challenged their peers online on a national scale, with less than half of the participants qualifying for the 2023 NEC China Finals.

The most prestigious high school economics event

The National Economics Challenge (NEC), which has been held annually since 2000 by the Council for Economics Education, is the most influential economic event for high school students in the United States. After over 20 years of development, more than 20,000 students take the chance to shine while being tested on key micro and macroeconomic principles, as well as their knowledge of the world economy each year. The National Economics Challenge has a unique method for engaging, motivating, and rewarding high school students, making it a fun learning experience.

Wellington Pupils achieved excellent results

Over the past three months, our pupils have expanded their knowledge of economics and developed their teamwork skills in the preparation for the NEC. Our pupils have achieved excellent results. Eva and Elliott from Year 12 won the National Top Scoring Individual Silver Award. Elliott also won the Microeconomics Hall of Fame with full marks in the subject, with many of our pupils winning the Regional Individual Award and Regional Team Award. The four teams who represented Wellington College Tianjin qualified for the 2023 NEC China Finals. Congratulations to all the pupils for their outstanding performances and their hard work. We hope to receive more good news from the 2023 NEC China Finals.
