As the first international school to become a Microsoft Showcase School in China, Wellington College Tianjin wanted to learn from Microsoft's advanced and innovative teaching and learning concepts. The aim was to improve the digital teaching and platform management of the campus, thereby accelerating the development of the pupils’ skillset through a meaningful cooperation with Microsoft.

“We are very proud of the collaboration we have with Microsoft because we share a similar mission in education. Now with the products, technology and innovative teaching and learning concepts from Microsoft, our school is developing, so that all our pupils, staff and parents can benefit from digital teaching and learning.”

Innovative Applications and Deep Integration

Building an Intelligent Campus of the Future

Wellington College in England was founded by Queen Victoria in 1859. Over 160 years later, the College is one of the most respected schools in the United Kingdom. Since its establishment, a large number of outstanding pupils have received offers from Oxford and Cambridge and Ivy League universities. Wellington College Tianjin, as the first overseas school of Wellington College China, was founded in 2011.

The College aspires to create a caring, international community that develops well-rounded individuals with strong values and the skills to thrive within an ever-changing world. Through the Microsoft Showcase School programme, Wellington College Tianjin will continue to integrate and optimize its educational resources to create an immersive and diverse teaching and learning environment, thereby providing a broader platform for collaboration and communication between teachers and pupils and accelerating the development of the College's digital transformation in all aspects.

Creative Teaching lets  pupils "connect" to the Future of Technology

Unlike the traditional teaching and learning with paper and blackboard, digital innovation is transforming education in terms of teaching tools, teaching models and teaching concepts, giving more possibilities within education. On one hand, Wellington College Tianjin has upgraded its teaching model by providing pupils with creative teaching equipment, creating more flexible learning pathways which allow the pupils to learn independently. On the other hand, the College's cooperation with Microsoft provides a broad platform for pupils to demonstrate their creativity through hands-on practice.

  • Wellington College Tianjin provides a Surface Pro with Microsoft educational solutions for pupils in years 10-13, creating a secure and inclusive online learning environment for teachers and pupils, ensuring both distance and blended learning solutions, replacing more traditional teaching models. At the same time, Microsoft Surface Pen and Microsoft OneNote and other learning applications can be used together to inspire pupils' creativity. This is very helpful for activities such as writing equations in maths and chemistry classes.

  • Microsoft OneNote enables free collaboration between teachers and pupils in Wellington College Tianjin. This platform helps the teachers and pupils create a space to share class materials, resources and information. OneNote Assignment also provides each pupil with a personal study area, a library of lecture content, and a collaborative space for lessons and creative activities that inspire the pupils to do better in their assignments, thereby increasing the impact of teaching and learning between teachers and pupils.

  • Here at Wellington College Tianjin, teachers make full use of the Microsoft Teams "face-to-face" meeting feature in daily teaching for better communication between the pupils. Teachers can include parents, teachers and pupils from different campuses, making learning more collaborative and significantly improving teaching efficiency. In addition, Microsoft Teams' online document editing, and online class communication functions break the boundary of time and space inside and outside the classroom, allowing the teachers and pupils to communicate anytime and anywhere.

  • Wellington College Tianjin introduced the "Microsoft Showcase School" makerspace, which uses Micro:bit programming robots and 3D printing devices in the STEM technology thinking practice class, where teachers stimulate pupils' understanding and the application of cloud computing, big data and other science and technology through fun and creative programming games.

  • The College actively encourages  pupils to participate in Microsoft's activities such as “Programming Hour”, “Microsoft Distance Education Global Relay Day”, “Microsoft Youth Innovation Cup”  and uses these events to motivate pupils to continue to practice what they know and do, deepen their understanding of IT knowledge, and inspire future-oriented technological thinking and capabilities.

In the future, the Microsoft Showcase School programme will continue to expand its cooperation with Wellington College Tianjin to provide its teachers and pupils with multiple innovative teaching models and advanced teaching services, thus forming a new environment for efficient and interactive teaching and learning and a new situation for intelligent and empowering education transformation.
