2020/21 Record Exam Results for Wellington Tianjin Pupils

It has been another record year for A Level results for pupils from Wellington College in Tianjin. The graduating class of 2021 achieved an extraordinary 50% of grades at A*, the highest grade available. Their counterparts in the UK averaged 19.1% at A*, with 44.8% of grades awarded A or A*. At Wellington, this figure increases to 66%. To add to the difficulty, with all examinations cancelled in the UK and only international candidates required to sit in-person exams, our candidates did superbly to rise to the challenge and gain such outstanding results.

The College’s Master, Mr Julian Jeffrey, commented that, “I am simply bowled over by the wonderful results for our students this year. They have achieved the standards of the world’s best schools, with half of all the grades awarded for our 36 graduates at A*. Their hard work, and the dedication of their teachers and parents, have given these young people genuinely life-changing opportunities for higher education and careers. I could not be more pleased for them all.”

Head of the Sixth Form, Mrs Jayne Sabio, was thrilled. “8 of our graduates (22% of the cohort) were awarded straight A*. Ted, Cynthia and Selina all gained four A* and are going off to The University of Cambridge, UCLA and University College London respectively. August leaves us with 3 A*, 4 AP (all at grade 5) and an SAT score of 1570 to take up a place at The University of Pennsylvania. Others achieved the grades that they needed to get into top universities in the world such as The University of Oxford, University College London, Kings College London, Peking University and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.”
